Sophie English
Sophie English graduated from the London College of Fashion in 1992 and went on to work with various designers including Nicole Farhi.
Sophie began her business in 1993 making couture clothes and launched her first bridal wear collection in 1995 which sold through her showroom in Pimlico as well as a wholesale collection selling through retailers across the UK at Harrods, Liberty and Dickins & Jones.
A chance meeting with a restaurant manager who was dissatisfied with her current staff uniforms started a new successful venture offering designer uniforms to clients who want well-thought, well-cut practical outfits.
'I enjoy designing with a brief and always keep the function of the garment in mind. Whether it's a bias cut wedding dress with a concealed figure enhancing underbodice, or a uniform with carefully cut raglan sleeves to allow more movement I want to make the wearer feel as comfortable as possible.'
Sophie lectures in clothing design in the UK and was recently commissioned to write her first book
Sewing Patterns 200 Q&A - 2011
‘A virtual encyclopedia of pattern adjustments, this book is the equivalent of a full semester course and would be especially helpful to new sewers, but it certainly has much to teach the experienced seamstress as well. I see the audience as being all levels of sewers, beginner to advanced.’
Evaluation from the American Sewing Guild
